In 2012, Avalanche Theatre decided to take writing into their own hands, as they produced a play written and directed by Co-Founder Jon Jon Johnson. Despertar premiered at Capital Fringe Festival at The Shop at Fort Fringe in July 2012.
“Despertar navigates the complex emotions surrounding two couples on the verge of collapse. Four people in love dance unsteadily between having it all and losing everything.”
DCTheatreScene said “Through the metaphor of tango, we see each couple explore the often blurred boundary between love and hate, passion and aggression, dream and dance”, and called it a “novel concept and heroic cast”
