It’s not a shudder. Nothing short of a full-scale panic attack will do when I grapple with my inexperience. It’s as you say: my inexperience is a challenge to me to grow as a person and an artist. However, sometimes I see the mountain of thankless work before me, and it stops me in my tracks.

It’s through continuing to work that I can transmute my inexperience into experience, of course. Though for me, in order to do that, I require practice and professionalism in order to continue to move forward. I see many actors who don’t ‘devour’ the experiences. I see them pick delicately at them, just the choicest morsels. By the model you’ve presented then, they aren’t ‘seriously attempting to master their profession’, which is why I ask why they’re in it.

Of course, on this blog, I talk like an insufferable know-it-all. But that’s part of theatre, too! I feel like we’re never allowed to present our inexperience and our failures, but rather have to focus on highlighting our experience and triumphs. That’s the side I present to everyone, naturally. “I’m big. I know it all. I’m talented. I’m profound and observant.” But I definitely feel the gravity of my own inexperience, which makes it all the harder to fly.

You have profound, solid observations about the present and future direction of theatre. It's impressive, but I can't help but wonder if you have moments where you realize your inexperience. Anyone seriously attempting to master a profession devours and devours whatever experience they can get. I personally see inexperience as both a challenge and an opportunity. A challenge because there is so much we don't know yet.. that's obvious. But an opportunity because we see things from a different angle.. below as opposed to within an organization.

Haha, well I'm just musing but back to the question - do you ever shudder with the realization of just how green you and the other managing directors are in this big world known as theatre.
